“Here lies a Filipino soldier whose name is known only to God.” Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales salutes a tomb in honor of unnamed Filipino soldiers who have given their lives in defense of the country during a wreath-laying ceremony on April 5, 2010 at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Fort Bonifacio , Taguig. The event kicks off the week-long celebration of Filipino heroism that culminates on Araw ng Kagitingan, April 9.

In the nation-wide simultaneous earthquake drill conducted in San Juan yesterday, February 17, 2010, Defense Secretary and NDCC Chair Norberto Gonzales is issuing a fair warning to stay vigilant and ready in worst-case-scenarios like what happened during the 1990 earthquake since PHIVOLCS said that an earthquake might already be overdue.  Secretary Gonzales said that a drill is both timely and relevant in increasing awareness and disaster preparedness since natural calamities have been known to be cyclical in nature.

 

Defense Secretary Norberto B Gonzales hands over the cash reward to one of the five informants for the neutralization of Abu Sayyaf Bandits and New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Mindanao .  With him was Western Mindanao Commmand (WestMinCom) Chief Lt. Acting Defense Secretary and National Disaster Coordinating Council Chairman Norberto B. Gonzales conducts an on-site spot inspection of the water system leakage in Pasay, Metro Manila last night, January 19, 2010, amidst daunting forecast of El Niño come summer season.  Manila Waterworks and Sewerage System Administrator Jose Diosdado Allado said that they need about 60-90 days to fix all the leakages in the water system that accounts for about 30% of water wastage in Metro Manila.
