The second batch of Sikorsky S70-i Blackhawk Helicopters for the Philippine Air Force arrived in Clark Air Base on 7 June 2021, bringing the current number of Blackhawks in the PAF's inventory to 11.
It will be recalled that first five out of 16 Blackhawk Helicopters were delivered on 9 November 2020, with a sixth arriving in Manila after one month via transport ship.
The last five Blackhawks are expected to be delivered in November of this year.
The S70-i helicopters, acquired from Polish company Polskie Zaklady Lotnicze Sp.z.o.o, were manufactured under license from Sikorsky USA and have a contract price of $241,461,699.39. The project was procured through a government-to-government transaction with Poland.
The initial batch of Blackhawks are now being utilized in humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations, including the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and other medical supplies.
With its two engines and other special features, such as having its own weather radar, the Sikorsky S70-i Blackhawk Helicopters are versatile, multi-role air assets.
