Meeting between the SND and UK Minister for Asia, Rt Hon Amanda Milling MP

     Defense Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana received Rt Hon Amanda Milling MP, new Minister for Asia at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom (UK) at the Department of National Defense on Friday, 08 October 2021. 

     During the meeting, which was also attended by UK Ambassador to the PHL Laure Beaufils, the two Ministers discussed developments in bilateral defense cooperation between the Philippines and the UK, which is being implemented under the 2017 MOU on Defense cooperation. 

     Minister Milling conveyed the UK's intent to maintain two offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) permanently in Southeast Asia, as a demonstration of its long-term commitment to the Indo-Pacific region. The Australia-UK-US (AUKUS) trilateral security partnership was also discussed, the intent of which, per Minister Milling, is to support Australia's capability to contribute to security in the region.
