December 7, 2023 (Quezon City) – Undersecretary for Strategic Assessment and Planning Ignacio B. Madriaga received US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for Plans and Posture Samuel J. Brannen, who was in the Philippines to visit sites under the Philippines-US Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA).
Underscoring the pronouncements of US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III to prioritize the Philippines-US defense alliance, Undersecretary Madriaga and DASD Brannen explored ongoing and future projects of EDCA during their meeting. Both officials were pleased with the progress of EDCA projects, considering that the total approved projects increased from thirty-two (32) to sixty-three (63).
Undersecretary Madriaga remarked that such developments under EDCA are a clear manifestation of enhanced Philippines-US defense relations. DASD Brannen responded with an update that the budget for EDCA projects is now for finalization. The meeting concluded with the two officials looking forward to the conclusion of the diplomatic notes of additional EDCA sites.
